Response to Government announcement on Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate

On the announcement that the Government is about to confirm the details of the zero emissions vehicle (ZEV) mandate, Matt Rooney, Head of Policy at the IMechE, said:
“The proposed zero emissions vehicle mandate is not alone sufficient to deliver decarbonisation of cars on UK roads. The Government is proposing to force an increase in supply without making comparable interventions to boost demand.
Other policies, in addition to the mandate, are required to make battery electric vehicles an economically viable and practical proposition to consumers.”
Read the IMechE report, published today, that sets out a plan to enable the UK car industry to successfully make the Net Zero transition here.
David Martell, Chief Executive of Andersen EV, commented:
“Retaining the £350 grant to reduce cut the cost of homeplace charge points for those living in flats is a welcome move, as it could help drive uptake of EVs among the many thousands of private buyers who do not benefit from the significant EV incentives available to fleet customers. It is increasingly clear that such incentives will be essential to create the demand necessary to help carmakers meet the government’s new EV sales targets. Both Andersen and EVIOS are eligible to fit chargers to flats under the grant, and we have invested heavily in our installation team to cut lead times to just two weeks.”
