Whitestar Solutions is celebrating 25 years in business – having grown from a one-person start-up to a thriving team of 40 and a £3 million turnover.
Bedfordshire-based Whitestar – which specialises in the installation of electrical and data infrastructure for commercial and public sector clients across the UK – marks its 25th anniversary this year, celebrating a quarter century of growth, resilience, and innovation.
The milestone follows a year of major achievements, including the company’s first £1 million single project and the acquisition of another business as part of a long-term expansion strategy.
They celebrated with a team dinner, a ‘25 Years in Business’ award honouring Founder Josh English, and a playful nude ‘Calendar Girls’-style team calendar featuring artfully placed props – raising over £2,800 for local charities.
John English, Founder, said: “To be celebrating 25 years of Whitestar means the world to me. When I think back to the start – with no plan, no clients, and just the Yellow Pages – it feels surreal to see how far we’ve come. What makes me most proud is the people. We’ve built something genuine here – a team that cares, that grafts, and that looks out for one another.”
Founded in 2000 by John, then aged just 23, the company began life as Total Cabling Solutions. Frustrated by a lack of recognition in his previous job, John took a leap of faith – quitting with no plan other than to “do it better.” Within days, he had registered his own company and begun the journey that would grow into Whitestar Solutions.
From a single advert in the Yellow Pages came the company’s first major client in the education sector – the Royal Veterinary College, which remains a client more than two decades later.
Today, Whitestar Solutions delivers specialist electrical, data, and building management solutions across education, rail, government, and manufacturing, supporting clients like Network Rail, Siemens, and HelloFresh in highly safety-focused environments. And with a long-standing commitment to nurturing new talent and creating career opportunities for young people, they take on three apprentices every year.
John added: “Every milestone, every project, every apprentice who’s gone on to thrive – it’s all down to the amazing team. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and excited about what’s still to come. If we can keep creating opportunities and doing good work, that’s success to me.”
Their growth isn’t looking to slow down – their next business goal is a £5 million turnover and a plan to expand its services while maintaining its people-first ethos.
