To mark their 90th anniversary year, Contactum welcomed Alex Mayer MP to its Dunstable headquarters where they shared their ambitious plans to become completely plastic free in 2026.
The local MP was invited by Contactum’s CEO Daniel Hewson to cut a celebratory cake, officially launching the company’s anniversary year. During the visit the MP learned more about Contactum’s nine-decade history and rich heritage, as well as its continued focus on sustainability and growth.
Founded in 1936, Contactum has grown into a leading electrical supplier, offering more than 6,000 products across the UK, and since relocating its headquarters to Dunstable in 2024, Contactum has strengthened its environmental credentials, which has seen it recognised with an EcoVadis medal-level rating. The business has eliminated bubble wrap, introduced cardboard-based packaging alternatives and implemented a strict zero-to-landfill policy. These initiatives form part of Contactum’s core values and wider sustainability strategy, aimed at reducing environmental impact across its operations.
The move to Dunstable has also supported significant business expansion. Operating from a 40,000 sq. ft facility, three times larger than its previous site, it has capacity for 3,400 pallets – an increase of more than 200 per cent. The expanded site is enabling improved operational efficiency while creating additional skilled jobs in the local area.
Alex Mayer MP said “It is great to hear about Contactum’s expansion since they came to Dunstable and their green plans for the future. The town rightfully has a growing reputation as a great place to do business.”
Daniel Hewson, CEO of Contactum, added “Reaching 90 years is a major milestone for the company and wider alfanar group. It reflects decades of innovation and commitment from our team, and the business is excited to build on this legacy with sustainable growth from its Dunstable base.”
During 2026 Contactum will be sharing greater insights into their heritage, its future developments, and of course celebrating the people behind its journey and success.
