- New research reveals consumers spend £3,000+ annually on property maintenance
- Checkatrade launches the Home Health Report for consumers to proactively identify maintenance jobs
New data from Checkatrade reveals UK consumers are spending an average of £3,403 annually on general property upkeep – opening the door for tradespeople to benefit from a consistent, year-round flow of work across key maintenance services.
The findings* underscore a significant and ongoing demand for skilled trades across sectors such as plumbing, roofing, electrics, painting & decorating, gardening, and more. For tradespeople, this represents a major opportunity for reoccurring income and building long-term customer demand.
Alongside this research, Checkatrade has launched its latest innovation – an AI-powered Home Health Report. This tool allows consumers to proactively uncover jobs around the home, helping them stay ahead of important property maintenance requirements – so they can get them booked with trades when they need to.
High demand = more jobs for trades
With UK consumers now spending an average of £627 per month on home maintenance and repairs, this latest research and report paints a positive picture for the trade industry – one that goes beyond seasonal or one-off projects.
Where the work is – based on average monthly spend:
- Building repair and maintenance: £283
- Painting, decorating, and updating the home (including new kitchen, bathroom and carpets): £201
- Garden maintenance: £87
- Cleaning/housekeeping: £55
Sunjiv Shah, Managing Director, Labs at Checkatrade, commented: “Tradespeople are the backbone of Britain’s homes, and the data from this latest research alongside our new Home Health Report tool means there’s more opportunity for them to grow their business than ever before. The numbers speak for themselves – and show just how essential trade services are, month in, month out. By helping consumers be more proactive in identifying work that needs to be done, we hope the Home Health Report will create secure steady work for tradespeople.”
